Manager Responsibilities

Implement Recommendations

In general, and when relevant, the vocational coaches can discuss recommendations—including restrictions and limitations associated with the employee's condition—with Human Resources, managers, and other resources as requested by your contact person, such as IT managers and safety managers. However, due to state, federal, and professional confidentiality and ethics regulations, coaches will share only the "minimally necessary information" with you. Specifically, vocational coaches will not obtain medical information, as it is not needed for their review or their development of recommendations.

Coaches may guide employees on how to have conversations with managers to promote a better interaction. There are instances when your employees may be referred to the Healthy Working Life program by other New York Life Group Benefit Solutions programs. In those cases, the coach may communicate directly with your employee without your knowledge. The employee is then responsible for discussing needs with his or her manager or the point of contact.

Our work with the employee is complete when the recommendation has been approved, or fully denied, and the employee has no further questions for us. If the employee has questions in the future around the provided intervention, the employee is free to contact the vocational coach again, but if the employee calls about a new health condition, we will refer the employee back to his or her contact person for a new referral.
