New York Life’s employee resource groups (ERGs) are voluntary, employee-led groups that welcome all employees and help foster a diverse and inclusive workplace aligned with New York Life’s mission, values, and goals. The NYLPride ERG, which began in 2006, is an active group with over 650 members and leaders in 10 office locations across the country.

“Through the NYLPride employee resource group (ERG), I’ve had the opportunity to hear people’s stories, both their struggles and their triumphs. Listening to those stories, I’ve learned what matters to them and how their experiences, which might be different than mine, have impacted them and made them who they are. I’ve met people from across the company from multiple locations that I otherwise would not have had the opportunity to meet. This has not only led to friendships, but it has also expanded my network, and I have found contacts who have helped me to find answers to business questions and learn about areas of the company outside of my own.

At a time when media reports are filled with stories of limiting the reach of diverse voices (e.g., banning books, and legislation initiatives around the country aimed at limiting or taking away rights of LGBTQ+ people) it’s encouraging to work for a company that provides, through the NYLPride ERG, a safe space to share concerns, learn, and grow. I appreciate that at New York Life I am welcome, and I can feel safe about being out and visible.”

“I’ve been a member of NYLPride employee resource group (ERG) since my first month at New York Life, which was almost 10 years ago! I am a business analyst in the Technology organization and my membership has given me the opportunity to network throughout the company, meet great people and help me grow my skills, both professionally and personally. Working with the ERG also offers me greater exposure to the community through volunteering opportunities with organizations that aim to improve the LGBTQ+ experience.

In addition, my participation in the ERG has taught me so much about New York Life’s culture, people, and processes. I served as the ERG communications lead during the pandemic, which was very impactful to me, as it expanded my career and skillset. I was able to help keep people connected through our newsletters, website, and membership meetings. And as an added bonus, all of the effort helped grow our ERG.”
