New York Life’s Alexis Gabion featured in ‘Equal Opportunity’ magazine.

Equal Opportunity magazine, which focuses on promoting diversity and inclusion in business, employment, and education, recently highlighted the career journey to date and perspectives of New York Life’s Alexis Gabion, an associate in the Technology department.

Gabion joined New York Life’s Technology team in a full-time role in July of 2021 after completing a remote summer internship during the pandemic. She explained that she was drawn to the company by not only the career opportunities, but also New York Life’s focus on service. “I liked that New York Life was very service-oriented, something I was already passionate about,” she noted. “I also liked how it not only conducted outreach, but also led charitable work including the launch of the Brave of Heart Fund for those affected by COVID, and I was pleased that I was able to work on and support that campaign.”

Commenting on New York Life’s inclusive culture, she shared, “The company doesn’t feel hierarchical and there’s mutual respect among colleagues and those in more senior positions.” She also spoke to the company’s focus on work-life balance and respect for time and life outside of the work environment.

Unique benefits

Acknowledging some of New York Life’s unique benefits, she pointed to the opportunity to participate in The Women’s Initiative, an employee resource group (ERG) that includes a Women in Tech sub-group, which provides networking and leadership opportunities, professional development, and community outreach to enhance career growth.

She also mentioned the continuing education opportunities available as a result of the Technology team’s award-winning learning-stipend program. “As a member of the Technology team, I receive an annual $2,500 learning stipend that I’m able to use at my discretion,” she said. She and her colleagues have the opportunity to participate in classes, take courses, attend conferences, and earn certifications in order to increase their knowledge and stay abreast of the latest technology trends as they relate to the insurance industry.
