A Day in the Life

You might be wondering what a day at a "real job" might be like. Imagine you just returned from a one week vacation (Caribbean perhaps?). You sit down at your computer at about 9 a.m., bumming.

Pop open that e-mail (beats doing the spreadsheet which is due tomorrow). What awaits? Maybe some of the following messages:

From John Q. Studious:: I am planning to sit for Course 4 this sitting; does anyone have any advice about which material you really need to learn? Study group, anyone?
From Program Coordinator:: See the attached note from the SOA Web site with comments about the Course 7 Pre-Test. Don't forget our monthly student meeting next Tuesday.
From Boss:: Don't forget we have our regular staff meeting today at 11. Hope your vacation was fun.
From Project Leader:: Meeting at 2 tomorrow to discuss the commissions scales and premium rates for the new Whole Life product.
From the Student Lunch Group:: They have Italian food at the cafeteria today! Do you want to join us for lunch downstairs at 12:15?

We won't kid you; actuarial science as a career is hard work. There are the exams. There is the challenging professional job. But at New York Life Insurance Company there are also the students and the shared experience to help alleviate the strain.
